OLYMPIC STAR'S SINGING DREAM

ABOVE: Show hopeful Louis Smith with medal
1st July 2009

BRIT Olympic gymnast Louis Smith is aiming to win reality telly gold.

The hunky star, who won a bronze medal in Beijing last year, has auditioned for The X Factor.

Smith, 20, said that his voice was “OK” but he thought that his sporting skills were better.

Arriving at auditions in Birmingham, Louis explained: “I was going to do it last year but couldn’t because of the Olympics.

“But now I’ve got some spare time I thought I’d give it a go. It’s going to be pretty daunting singing in front of Simon Cowell.

This is taking me out of my comfort zone.” Asked which he would rather win – X Factor or a gold at London’s 2012 games – he said: “Both!”

The auditions in Birmingham were halted for an hour after a 999 emergency.

An over-excited teenage fan banged into an arm rest and dislocated his knee cap.

The auditions were temporarily stopped while medics lifted him from his seat.

They gave the fan morphine for the pain before taking him to hospital for treatment.

A show spokesman said yesterday: “It is our priority to ensure the safety of everyone and we wish him a speedy recovery.”
