MERCEDES McQueen finally has something to celebrate in the New Year when her HIV test comes back negative.
She has been living under a cloud after having unprotected sex with lover Malachy Fisher, despite him knowing he was HIV positive.
She did not know about his condition at the time and the pair had a huge bust-up.
Fans then saw Mercedes (Jennifer Metcalfe, 24) marry the Irishman after following him to Belfast.
The happy couple return to Chester over the festive season to start their new life together and finally get some good news.
A show insider said: “Mercedes is ready to stick her head in the sand and forget all about the test results. But her family make her confront everything and she opens the letter from the hospital, which tells her she’s in the clear.”
But instead of revealing the result Merc flees from the house, leaving Malachy (Glen Wallace, 32) to track her down.
Our mole said: “You would think she would be extremely happy but the reality is that now she has a husband who could die and leave her on her own.
“At least if she had HIV then they would be going through everything together. The news is bitter-sweet.”
