AMIR KHAN: RICKY RIGHT TO RETIRE
AMIR KHAN has told Ricky Hatton to start enjoying his retirement – and forget about boxing.
Hatton, 31, is set to announce his retirement this week.[>
[>
There had been speculation he would fight Bolton’s WBA world light-welterweight champion Khan.[>
[>
But Hatton’s younger brother Matthew says The Hitman had lacked his usual spark in training since being KO’d in two rounds by Filipino Manny Pacquiao in May.[>
[>
Khan defends his world title against Yank Paulie Malignaggi at Madison Square Garden on May 15.[>
And he said: “It’s a great move by Ricky to retire.[>
[>
“He has had a great career and has only been beaten by the best two fighters in the world. He should call it a day and enjoy himself. If his own brother is saying he lacks spark in training, he should take his brother’s advice and retire.[>
[>
“I don’t have to fight Ricky Hatton. [>
[>
“I have got big fights with other big opponents.[>
“If he has retired, I think it’s the best move he has made. He will always be known as a great fighter and he has made enough money.Ricky should relax and chill out. [>
[>
“Me against him would be a great fight and one of the biggest fights in British boxing.”[>
[>
But Khan is not ruling out a future clash with London lightweight Kevin Mitchell.[>
[>
He said: “It would be good to fight someone from Frank Warren’s company. He would want to get me back for leaving him.”[>
