To brighten up your Monday, I though you might enjoy this wonderful film of English bodgers from just80 years ago, making Windsor chairs in a manner that would be entirely familiar to chairmakers 300 years ago (and indeed, entirely familiar to me today!) One thing that strikes me about the film is the height of the lathes used by the turners. Having learned on a more conventionally sized lathe, I have a difficult time workingatshoulder height, though it would certainly lend a closer view of the work. Hope you enjoy the video as much as I did!.
At some point in the 1860s, for reasons currently unknown, Owen and Nancy moved to the United States. They are listed on the 1870 US Census as living in Pennsylvania with four of their children but it seems that they didn’t stay for very long because they are back in Donegal by 1875. You can imagine that it is quite the journey just to travel to the United States let alone make a return trip back to Ireland and then travel to Scotland several years later..

Spray starch? Space age polymers? Magic? Oh, who cares? It amazing.
I found your descriptions of Marty’s love toward her family to be absolutely precious. There were parts of the book when I even wished that I could be in Marty’s place so I could experience what she felt during that particular moment. There were times when I reread a sentence just to let the true meaning of it really sink in.
If I went a day without counting calories, I figured there was no point in continuing to do it. And off the wagon I went. Obviously these things didn’t work for me, and they likely didn’t work for thousands of other people, too, or we wouldn’t be a fat nation.
